Vancouver
Mountains behind you, ocean in front of you, and a rainforest in the middle of the city. Vancouver is one of those rare places where you can ski in the morning and kayak in the afternoon. The food scene is world-class — especially sushi, which rivals Tokyo's — and the city is ridiculously photogenic from every angle.

Vancouver travel FAQ
How many days do I need in Vancouver?
3 to 4 days. Day one: Stanley Park seawall (bike or walk), Granville Island for lunch, and Gastown for dinner. Day two: Capilano Suspension Bridge or Grouse Mountain (the Grind hike if you're fit). Day three: Kitsilano Beach, VanDusen Garden, and the food scene in Richmond (incredible dim sum). Add a day for a trip to Whistler or Victoria.
Is Vancouver expensive?
One of Canada's most expensive cities. A mid-range restaurant meal costs C$20-35 ($15-26). A craft beer is C$8-10 ($6-7.50). Downtown hotels start at C$180-300/night ($135-225). Save money by eating in Richmond (amazing Asian food at lower prices), exploring free beaches and parks, and using the efficient SkyTrain transit system.
What's the food scene like?
Outstanding and multicultural. The sushi is genuinely world-class (try Toshi or Miku). Richmond has some of the best Chinese food outside Asia — dim sum at Dynasty is a must. Granville Island Public Market is perfect for local produce and artisan food. Japadog (Japanese hot dogs) is a fun street food staple. The craft beer scene is huge — check out Brewery Creek on Main Street.
