Tokyo

A city where centuries-old temples sit next to neon-lit skyscrapers. Tokyo moves fast but always makes room for quiet moments — a hidden shrine, a backstreet ramen shop, a park bench under cherry blossoms.

Tokyo travel FAQ

How many days do I need in Tokyo?

3 to 5 days is a good starting point. That gives you time to explore the major neighborhoods — Shibuya, Shinjuku, Asakusa, Akihabara — without rushing. If you want to include day trips to Kamakura or Nikko, add a couple more days.

Is Tokyo expensive to visit?

It depends on your style. Street food and convenience store meals are surprisingly affordable. Trains are efficient and reasonably priced. Budget hotels and hostels start around $30-50/night. You can do Tokyo well on a moderate budget.

Do I need to speak Japanese in Tokyo?

Not really. Signs in train stations and major tourist areas are in English. Most restaurants have picture menus or tablets with translations. Google Translate works well for anything else. Learning a few basic phrases like 'sumimasen' (excuse me) goes a long way, though.
