Cape Town
Table Mountain watches over everything — the city, the ocean, the vineyards, the beaches. Cape Town is where Africa meets the Atlantic, and the mix is extraordinary. Colorful Bo-Kaap houses, penguins waddling on Boulders Beach, the Cape of Good Hope feeling like the end of the earth, and a food and wine scene that punches way above its weight. The exchange rate makes it remarkably affordable for what you get.

Cape Town travel FAQ
How many days do I need in Cape Town?
4–5 days minimum. Day 1: Table Mountain (cable car up, hike down if you're fit), Bo-Kaap neighborhood walk. Day 2: Cape Peninsula drive — Chapman's Peak, Boulders Beach penguins, Cape Point, and Cape of Good Hope. Day 3: Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens, V&A Waterfront, and Robben Island tour (book 2+ weeks ahead). Day 4: Wine tasting in Stellenbosch or Franschhoek (30–45 minutes out). Day 5: Camps Bay Beach, Signal Hill sunset, and Long Street nightlife. Rent a car — it's the best way to explore.
Is Cape Town safe?
Tourist areas (Waterfront, Camps Bay, City Bowl, wine regions) are generally safe. Like any major city, there are areas to avoid — research neighborhoods before wandering. Don't walk alone at night outside main tourist zones. Keep valuables out of sight. Use Uber instead of hailing taxis. Car break-ins happen — don't leave anything in the car. That said, millions of tourists visit safely every year. The locals are incredibly friendly and proud to show off their city.
How affordable is Cape Town?
Very affordable for the quality. A nice restaurant meal costs R200–400 ($11–22 USD). A wine tasting in Stellenbosch is R50–150 ($3–8). Table Mountain cable car is R400 ($22) return. Uber rides across the city are R50–100 ($3–5). A good hotel costs $60–150/night. The exchange rate means you get incredible value — gourmet dining, world-class wine regions, and luxury accommodation at a fraction of European or US prices.
